There are two types of tourist attractions in this world; the ones that have enjoyed serious overhyping and leave you feeling a little… underwhelmed, when you finally see them and the ones that no amount of hype could do justice, so strikingly beautiful are they.
The Kuang Si Falls or Kuang Xi Falls, alternatively known as the Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three-tiered waterfall about 29 kilometers south of Luang Prabang. waterfall that flows milky blue water through the limestone-rich jungle and empties out into a series of three gently cascading pools. From the lowest one, each pool seems like a step on your way up to a holy temple. Over years of flowing over the rocks, Kuang Si Falls have etched deep lines into the stones which make a beautiful travertine pattern. The harmony between the blue of crystal water and the green of verdant jungle paints a picturesque landscape of swimming pools in the sky. Kuang Si’s pools are basically like swimming in the sky on a warm summer’s day.
Legend has it that a wise old man summoned the water by digging into the earth. Then a golden deer made its home under a rock protruding from under the new waters. That’s where the name Kuang Si comes from: “kuang” means deer, and “si” means dig.. Adding the falls to your itinerary is one of the greatest travel decisions you’ll make.
