Horseshoe-shaped Hikkaduwa Beach at the northern end of the strip has a section of coral reef just offshore in around 3m of water; several places rent snorkelling gear (around Rs 600 for two hours). Stay alert in the water so that you don’t get mowed down by the many glass-bottomed boats. You may be asked to buy a ticket for the offshore Hikkaduwa National Park from the ticket office.
